Fane and Alana: Daddy's Here

Fane's sharp ears twitched as he heard a small noise under the roar of the thunder and pounding rain against the window. Opening his eyes, he heard in the darkness a small whimper outside his door somewhere down the all. Ah, poor Alana...must be having a nightmare.
Quietly, he pushed back the covers as he yawned, his fangs gleaming in the darkness. Careful not to wake Adrianna by his side, he silently slipped out of bed and put on his shirt, walking down to his daughter's bedroom. When he reached it, he was surprised to see that Alana was not asleep, but wide awake and trembling, clutching her knees as she hugged the blankets to her.
"Alana, darling," Fane said softly, coming over to her. "What's wrong? I heard you whimpering. Did you have a nightmare?"
The little vampire shook her head. "No, Daddy. The storm...it's scaring me." She clutched her blankets tighter to her as she heard another loud rumble of thunder sound after a blinding flash of light.
"Why didn't you come to me or your mother?" he asked, pulling his daughter into his arms. 
"I...I was trying to be brave like you," she said, clutching tight to her father as tears ran down her face. Fane hugged Alana tightly. "Oh, darling...it's alright. You could have come to me. Don't worry, darling. Daddy's here. The storm is not going to hurt you." He gently rocked her in his arms as she let her tears flow. After a long moment, Alana sighed, feeling waves of warmth and comfort wash over her as she felt her father's strong protective arms around her, already feeling better. "I'm sorry I woke you," she said quietly. "I just wanted to try to not be scared, like you. You're not scared of anything."
Fane smiled warmly, tipping Alana's chin up. "And you are a very brave little girl for trying, darling," he said, kissing her forehead. "But I'm going to tell you a little secret. It is ok to be scared sometimes. Even I get scared sometimes."
Alana's eyes widened as she looked at him. "You do?"
Fane nodded as he stroked her soft curls "Oh yes. I may be a powerful ruler, dearheart, but sometimes I do get scared. I get frightened by the thought of losing you or your mother. I get frightened at the thought of hurting someone close to me."
Alana blinked in awe. "Oh...I guess even kings get scared, huh?"
Fane nodded. "Mm-hmm. But the thing about facing your fear, darling, is that you don't have to face it alone. There will be some days that you will, but until that time comes, don't be afraid to come to me or your mother for comfort. Alright?"
Alana nodded, wrapping her arms around his neck and planting a kiss on his cheek. "Ok, I will. I love you, Daddy."
Fane smiled warmly, kissing her cheek back and hugging his beloved little girl. "I love you too, Alana," he whispered lovingly in her ear. Holding her close in his arms, he brushed a long strand of her hair away from her face, smiling down at her. "Would you like me to sing to you so you can sleep better, sweetheart?"
Alana nodded and smiled, her little fangs gleaming in the darkness, snuggling close to her father. "Yes, please."
Fane kissed her head, smiling, and softly began to sing a lullaby in Romanian tongue as the rain continued to pound dully against the window.
"Sleep, sugar, let your dreams flood in,
Like waves of sweet fire, you're safe within.
Sleep, sweetie, let your floods come rushing in 
And carry you over...to a new mornin'...." 

Yeah, so I was inspired to draw this picture of Alana in her younger years with her beloved father. I'm really happy with the way it turned out!! I will have a story up for these two soon, but until then, here's a brief explanation: Fane found a way to bring Adrianna back to life (I don't know yet, I will have details later) and they have a long and happy life together again. They marry and had a child together, Alana cel Rau, who Fane loves very much. I was very happy that I drew this picture. Really shows the love Fane has for his family. And the song Fane is singing is this beautiful piece right here, called "Sleep" by Poets of the Fall. </span>www.youtube.com/watch?v=krPvO7… It's a gorgeous piece, and I thought it was the perfect song for Fane to sing to his little one.
